What Is and Is Not a Chemical

A chemical is any substance consisting of  matter. This includes any liquid, solid, or gas. A chemical is any pure substance  (an element) or any mixture (a solution, compound, or gas). They can either occur naturally or can be created artificially. What Is Not a Chemical? If anything made of matter is made up of chemicals, which means that only phenomena that arent made of matter are not chemicals: Energy is not a chemical. Light, heat, and sound are not chemicals—nor are thoughts, dreams, gravity, or magnetism. Examples of Naturally-Occurring Chemicals Naturally-occurring chemicals can be solid, liquid, or gas. Naturally occurring solids, liquids, or gases may be made up of individual elements or may contain many elements in the form of molecules. Gases: Oxygen and nitrogen are naturally-occurring gases. Together, they make up most of the air we breathe. Hydrogen is the most common naturally-occurring gas in the universe.Liquids: Perhaps the most important naturally-occurring liquid in the universe is water.  Made up of hydrogen and oxygen, water behaves differently from most other liquids because it expands when frozen. This natural chemical behavior has had a profound effect on the geology, geography, and biology of Earth and (almost certainly) other planets.Solids: Any solid object found in the natural world is made up of chemicals. Plant fibers, animal bones, rocks, and soil are all made up of chemicals. Some minerals, such as copper and zinc, are made entirely from one element. Granite, on the other hand, is an example of an igneous rock thats made up of multiple elements. Examples of Artificially Made Chemicals Human beings probably began combining chemicals before recorded history. About 5,000 years ago, we know that people began combining metals (copper and tin) to create a strong, malleable metal called bronze. The invention of bronze was a major event, as it made it possible to form a huge range of new tools, weapons, and armor. Bronze is an alloy (a combination of multiple metals and other elements), and alloys have become a staple of construction and trade. Over the past few hundred years, many different combinations of elements have resulted in the creation of stainless steel, lightweight aluminum, foils, and other very useful products. Artificial chemical compounds have transformed the food industry. Combinations of elements have made it possible to preserve and flavor food inexpensively. Chemicals are also employed to create a range of textures from crunchy to chewy to smooth. Artificial chemical compounds have also had a profound impact on the pharmaceutical industry. By combining active and inactive chemicals in pills, researchers and pharmacists are able to create the medicines required to treat a wide variety of disorders. Chemicals in Our Daily Lives We tend to think of chemicals as being undesirable and unnatural additions to our food and air. In fact, chemicals make up all of our foods as well as the air we breathe. However, some chemical compounds added to natural foods or gases can cause significant problems. For example, a chemical compound called MSG (monosodium glutamate) is often added to food to improve its flavor.  MSG, however, can trigger headaches and other adverse negative reactions. And while chemical preservatives make it possible to keep food on the shelves without spoiling, some preservatives, such as nitrates, have been found to have carcinogenic (cancer-causing) properties, especially when overused.

The link between morality and human nature has been a progressive reoccurring theme since ancient times (Prinz, 2008). Moral development is a characteristic of a person’s general development that transpires over the course of a lifetime. Moral development is derived by a wide variety of cultural and demographic factors that appear to influence morally relevant actions. Turiel (2006) defined morality as an individuals â€Å"prescriptive judgments of justice, rights, and welfare pertaining to how people ought to relate to each other.† Individuals’ moral judgments are frequently considered to be a product of culturally specific controls that provide a framework for behavioral motivations that are sensitive to the effects of gender, education, religion and politics (Banerjee, Huebner Hauser, 2010). While several approaches have been utilized to examine the interaction of multivariate contributors to fundamental moral differences such as: disputes about family life, sexuality, social fairness, and so on, research has suggested that ideological considerations have provided a potent and diverse explanation for the polarization of contrasting views (Weber Federico, 2013). When an individual is proposed with a moral dilemma they will often seek the advice of others rather than acting solely upon their immediate cultural, familial, and cognitive predispositions; suggesting that judgments are also made about the moral judgments of others (Rest, Cooper, Coder, Masanz Anderson, 1974).

People who cannot get enough food and water rightly resent those who appear to have everything and terrorists and those who support them develop as a result. To understand the personality of the people, questionnaires are solved that provide an insight into the personality of the people and the confidence they possess while communicating with one another. Each tool has different levels that help me in assessing the pattern of communication that every individual possesses. The Non-verbal Immediacy Scale-Self-analyses the behaviours of the individuals provide positive feeling towards other people. This can be considered as the most updated communication assessment tool. Similarly, the Personal Report of Intercultural Communication Apprehension addresses any communication issue that may arise during intercultural communication. This instrument is assumed to be better than the previous version, although some scholars are of the opinion that it may be correlated with the previous version (Thill Bove, 2013). The Talkaholic Scale is used to measure the talkative nature of the people. People with difficulty to remain silent for a long time can be assessed using this tool. However, the phrase talks too much usually refers to people that speak out their feelings that others do not. The fourth tool, that is the Tolerance for Disagreement Scale is used to measure the level up to which people can tolerate being disagreed upon by other people. The Willingness to Listen Diagnostic tool helps to understand the listening ability of individuals. Often the listening ability of individuals is termed as the key to make effective communication (Shwom Snyder, 2015). Each of the tools used has produced different results that have helped in the analysis of my communication level. The communication style and the level of my confidence have been presented in a clear manner after the analysis of the test results. The results of the analysis are summarised accordingly for the future development of my communication abilities and reaction to situations. The analysis of the Non-verbal Immediacy Scale Self-report suggests that my positive feeling towards other people is medium. This suggests that I need to develop my skills to see the positive side of the people. The analysis states that any score above 83 for males is low as it brings in a sense of negative attitude towards other people. The calculation of the total score of the questionnaire and the solving method undertaken for the analysis suggests that my score is 94, which is below 104. Thus, my emotions towards trusting people depend upon factors such as the personality of the people and level of m y connection with the people. According to Cardon, (2015), it is an important aspect of the communication process that can help in making effective communication with people in the workplace (Refer to Appendix 1 for test result). The next test that was undertaken by me is the business-law Report of Intercultural Communication Apprehension. In this test, the score can range from 14 to 70 and scores below 32 indicate that the level of intercultural communication is low among individuals. In my case, the results of the test indicated that my score is 28. This indicates the fact that my ability to maintain intercultural communication is low and that I am usually nervous whenever I talk to people outside of my cultural group. I cannot engage in any group discussion that involves people of other culture. Despite this, I feel comfortable while interacting with people from other cultures. The results indicate a huge negative sign as in the modern day, it is necessary for every individual to remain comfortable during the communication with people from other cultures. This is because organisations employ people from different backgrounds for increasing diversity (Refer to Appendix 2 for test result). The third test result that I had undertaken is the Talkaholic test. This test indicates the level of my boldness and the manner in which I can communicate my feelings to other people. The requirements of this test are that I need to have a score between 10 and 50 to assert my level of high talkative nature. However, the results showed that I had scored 27, which is said to be an average score for many people. This indicates that I do not like to communicate my feelings with others and tend shy away from sharing my views (Refer to Appendix 3 for test result). The fourth test result, that is Tolerance for Disagreement Scale is a test that determines my temperament level. This test suggests that people with a high mentality of the argument tend to be involved in a disagreement with people. Any score below 32 in this test shows a low level of tolerance. In my case, the score of 44 indicates that I have a modern level of tolerance towards disagreement. This is a character test, as well as my responses to these disagreements, can be analysed (Refer to Appendix 4 for test result). The fifth test result indicates that my willingness to listen to other people is moderate. In this test, a score of 84 indicates that I pay attention to the talks of the people but at the same time try to install my opinion as well. This implies that I tend to be carried away and that I need to be more focused so achieve desired results in my professional career (Refer to Appendix 5 for test result). Having analysed the results of the five communication test, I can tell that my ability to speak with others need improvement. This is evident from Talkaholic test in which I secured low score than the cut off mark. This can help in gaining an advantage in the future, as my thoughts may prove important in any organisational matter. My ability to speak with people from difficult cultures also need improvement as is evidenced by the PRICA test. This is also effective in learning about the methods and beliefs of people belonging to different cultures. The moderate score of my listening ability indicates that I can be a good communicator. However, I need to remain focused and try to see the reason for the negative feedback that people give me about a particular topic. I do not engage in the deliberation of disagreement with people at my workplace. To provide a more detailed analysis of my communication level, I can provide two instances that highlight my communication gap. The first issue that I need to provide focus is my ability to interact with other people of a different cultural group. The situation happened about 3 months ago, while I was working in a team. The team members consisted of different cultural people and my nervousness in front of them was clearly visible. My role in the team was to motivate the members and provide any moral support during the work. However, owing to my nervousness I failed to achieve the task assigned to me. This created problem in the team and most of the members were discouraged to continue working for the team. The situation made me realise my inability to maintain intercultural communication. I need to develop smartness and be bold while communicating with the people outside the culture. The second issue that occurred was the result my lack of concentration while listening to people. Due to my inability to remain a focus, I failed to understand the tasks that were given to me by my superior. This led to the huge commotion as it got the organisation to fall into a state of concern. I need to develop this ability, as a good listener is also a good communicator. The assessment of every situation can be done by properly listening to the words of other people. Thus, the ability to listen to people and judge people positively is also another skill that I need to develop. These abilities are effective for a proper professional growth. Concept of communication and its issues According to Rentz and Lentz, (2013), communication can be considered as a convenient way of transferring information, thoughts and feelings. Every person needs to communicate with one another to prevent from being lonely and understand the thoughts and processes of the people. The exchange of information can be in two-folds, non-verbal and verbal. The verbal communication is the most common form of communication that involves the talking with people using words; the non-verbal communication is made by using signals. To understand the communication level that is required, certain tools are developed that highlight the ability and the inability of the individuals. The communication tools are effective in highlighting the issues and the manner in which individuals can solve it (Argenti, 2015). Hence, an example can be provided to highlight the communication issues and the possible diagnosis. The inability to communicate properly with people from different cultures is a common problem for most people. This often leads to ineffective interaction between the team members and may create a sense of distrust among the members. As stated by Peleckien Polajeva, (2016) the issues between people may lead to improper communication and individuals may feel depressed due to the inability to maintain proper collaboration. This may even jeopardise the team as lack of communication may lead to misunderstanding. The second issue that I faced was the fact that I am not a good listener. Listening to people makes a person communicate more freely with people and develop a sense of leadership as the individuals can gain experience by listening to people (Chaney Martin, 2013). The proper listening ability also provides opportunities to make quick decisions. These issues can be solved by remain ing focused on the objective. Developing empathy towards the people can lead to building confidence to approach people of different cultures. These components help in the proper form of communication at a steady rate. The sender of a message delivers it using encrypted code. The message sent is then decoded by the receiver and analysed about its importance. After the decoding, the message is communicated to the people. The medium of communication is done by using internal activities that are present in an organisation. This can be considered as an ultimate model for individuals that have problems in maintaining direct communication. As observed by DiSanza Legge (2016) the model developed by Schramm considers communication is a continuous process. Communication between people will not cease, as people need to communicate with one another in every field. Hence, it is necessary for every person to ensure that the level of communication is kept intact and that people can understand one another fluently without any problems. In this context, it can be said that the model develops by Schramm can be an effective model that helps in maintaining the communication process in every sphere of life. The process can help in developing listening skills among individuals. This is done as the messages sent are normally encrypted. Hence, in order to decrypt the message, it is necessary that individuals listen to every part of the message minutely. The model provides a continuous flow that exists from both ends and maintains a steady level of communication. Proper listening can pave the way for the development of future leaders as listening can be converted to making effective communication with people. In this regard, it can be said that the best method to improve the communication with people is to understand the demand made by them. Having understood this demand, individuals can develop communication competence and ensure that every issue that is faced by them are solved easily. This includes the issues related to communication (Thill Bove, 2013). The manner in which people listen and express their thoughts forms the basis of the communication process. Thus, it is important for every individual to ensu re that the necessary requirements for improving the communication process can be used effectively in order to ensure future professional development. Action Plan Having analysed my issues in terms of communicating with people, I have managed to develop an action plan that can be used to improve my skills. The action plan focuses on the issues that I have encountered and the manner in which I can improve upon the errors. It can be said that to conduct the plan in a proper manner I started to maintain a journal entry that records my activity every day. This journal can be effective as I can reflect upon my progress and the things that I still need to achieve in order to be successful in the communication department. In this regard, I have set a timeline so that I can develop my communication skills within that period. I aim to address my issues within 6 months and rectify any issues that hinder my communication. To ensure that I am guided properly, I have sought the assistance of a trainer. The person concerned is a professional and have coached people with similar problems that I have encountered. I have sought the help of Peter Dhu, a Diploma holder in Professional Coaching. Mr Dhu has an experience of over 20 years in providing training to people suffering communication issues. I have assigned an eight-week training programme for him with the hopes of getting help in my communication problems. The professional advice that Mr Dhu provides can help to understand the gaps in my communication and help me in the development of a stable career in my future. Along with the training classes, I have started to read books that describe various models and theories related to communication. For improvement, I have been reading books written by famous authors. Some of the books include Active listening 101: How to turn down your volume to turn up your communication skill written by Emilia Hardman, 2012. "The Power of communication skills to build trust, inspire loyalty and lead effectively" written by Helio Fred Garcia, 2012. "Power Listening: Mastering the most critical business skill" written by Bernard, T. Ferrari, 2012. With the help of these books, I have managed to understand the use of effective communication in developing proper skills. I have also started to participate in evaluation courses that help in developing communication skills. Some of the courses that I am currently undertaking include Diploma in Communication Management courses, Skills in managing people effectively using communication techniques. These courses are effectiv e for solving the issues related to communication. The experience and the guidance provided by the teachers can help me to mitigate the problems that I have faced. Those six major content areas would be, approaches to learning, social and emotional development, physical develo pment and health, communication, language and literacy, cognitive development, and lastly creative arts. As the children progress and enter Preschool they add three more content areas to their curriculum and those areas would be in mathematics, science and technology, and social studies. ContentId=63). The students in a High/Scope classroom are actively learning alongside their teachers. The students in a High/ Scope classroom pick what they want to learn that day and they are given time to do it and they report back to the class what they have learned and why it is important. This gives each child the individuality to work at their own pace and not be rushed if something is harder for them than for other students. This way the student’s feel that they are all equally important and they see that no one student is getting a particular amount of attention. Daily Schedule: In a High/ Scope school setting consistency is the key to readiness. Consistency in the classroom helps the children gain a much stronger understanding of time. In the classroom the day would be started with a morning greeting, following this morning greeting would be planning time, which is when the teacher walks around the class and asks the students to pick out something that they want to work on throughout their work time. The teacher will record what each child is working on and will keep track of when they finish and how long it took them, along with how much assistance they needed for that specific task. The work time takes up a rather large portion of the day and it is then followed by recall time. Recall time is when the class comes together as a whole and each child talk about what they have worked on for the day as well as what they have learned. These three concepts, planning time, work time, and recall time, are known together as the plan-do-review cycle. This is the main and the most important part of the day in a High/Scope classroom. Other parts of the day that aren’t as important yet are still important would be small group time, large group time, cleanup, meals, as well as naps depending on which setting you are in (Essa 2007). As a group we designed a parent’s monthly newsletter and letter share activity. Our newsletter informed parents of our monthly classroom actives, upcoming book fair, sight words, our letter share day, and nights for parent activity night. We also made a parent flyer for Flip It. Our Flip It activity is a training session offering the flip it approaches to challenging behavior. Parents are encouraged to participate in program activities with children or trainings offered by the teachers. To stress the importance of parent involvement, parents are often invited or encouraged to participate in a variety of activities with children. Evaluation of the Model: The High/ Scope Approach has been portrayed in many different ways. There is controversy between whether this approach works or if it doesn’t work. There is also debate about whether this approach works because it doesn’t contain excess materials to make the classroom work. Many points are in the air about this, and there is much research that either backs this information up or tears it down. In the article The HighScope Model of Early Childhood Education, the author states that this specific approach doesn’t need one to go out and buy specific materials to make the classroom work, as in other approaches like a Montessori classroom. This model is a prime example of being culturally and developmentally appropriate practice in this field of education. In the article High/Scope program briefing paper, the author talks and compares this approach with the EPPE and the Galinsky analysis that they came up with. The EPPE and the Galinsky analysis states â€Å"High/Scope evidences all of the elements of the quality early childhood programs that have been identified. (Cahir, p. 8)† This is important because they are stating that this program is a well round and highly educational approach. The program that the High/ Scope Approach was originally intended for has proven that there is a decrease in the amount of crimes, that have become of the students that had this curriculum. As stated in the article The High/Scope Perry Preschool Study Through Age 40, the author states â€Å"the Perry Preschool program played a significant role in reducing overall arrests and arrests for violent crimes as well as property and drug crimes and subsequent prison or jail sentences over study participants’ lifetimes up to age 40. (Schweinhart,p. )† I found this to be very interesting because I did not find other approaches to having any information like this. There are six core standards. Each standard describes in a few sentences what well-prepared teachers should know and be able to do. It is important to note, that the standard is not just that candidates know something â€Å"about† child development and learning, the expectations are more specific and complex than that. A seventh programmatic standard describes requirements for early childhood field experience and clinical practice. They are informed advocates for sound educational practices and policies. (NAEYC) Teachers are responsible for planning lessons that help students learn through hands-on activities and experiences. The teacher in a high scope classroom should be encouraging adult to child interaction as well as facilitating learning through the students’ exploration. For example, sitting down with children at the block area and encouraging children to find out what happens when the stack gets too high, or what happens when you put a small block on the bottom and large on the top. Teachers should develop lessons that interest the students that way students are motivated to explore and learn in that particuluar setting In conclusion, The High Scope curriculum focuses on the ability of children to actively learn. Students are encourgaed to learn by engaging in hands-on experiences as well as interacting with adults, other children, materials, and events. Students are also at the center of planning. Symbolism in Ancient Mariner essays Symbolism in The Rime of the Ancient Mariner Samual Taylor Coleridges poem The Rime of the Ancient Mariner is a lyrical fantasy ballad based on the story of a weathered sailor and his ordeals. The poem begins with the antiquated English mariner capturing the attention of a passer by on his way to a wedding. With this the mariner proceeds to reminisce and tell his spell bound listener of his voyage between the equator and the South Pole, and then back to England. The story follows the mariner and his ship through life and death, heaven and hell, and everything in between. Symbolism is used in The Rime of the Ancient Mariner to convey powerful and complex themes that in turn create an Allegory. In this paper allegory as well as symbolism will be defined. Following the definitions will be examples of how they are used and explanations of their meanings in relation to the poem and to life. An allegory is a story with two or more symbolic levels. The events, settings, objects, or characters in an allegory stand for ideas or qualities beyond themselves. In a sense it is a description of one thing under the image of another. On almost the same level, symbolism is a literary device that uses one thing in representation of another. Symbols are almost always physical in nature and represent something that is not physical, like a color to represent a mood or an object to represent an idea.
